In October 2020 Chalkbeat launched a pop-up newsroom to cover voting and election news – Votebeat, “a nonprofit news organization committed to reporting the nuanced truth about elections and voting at a time of crisis in America.” After a successful test phase, Votebeat became a new vertical of the organization. I worked with leadership to design branding for the pop-up and later refined the designs for the official launch in 2021. We opted for a non-traditional color palette, avoiding the typical red and blue that most election-focused organizations use.
