Co-authors, kt shorb and Katherine Wilkinson approached me to create the key art for their original play Inappropriate. “Four years ago, two queer friends made a play about how impossible it felt to exist in their own bodies. The play was written and staged and perfectly prepared. And then, without warning, it stopped… And now, they have to finish their impossible play.” They were looking to create a design that would capture the intensity of the narrative and the relationship between the main characters (based on kt and Katherine themselves). I illustrated their portraits and opted for a bold typographic treatment that captures the forcefulness in which the play was created.
